A few weeks ago, it was announced that America will reopen its borders to European travelers. However, much was still unclear about the exact conditions. The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) has now announced the requirements for travelers coming to the United States.
Requirements for travel to the United States
From November 8, 2021, people from Schengen countries (including the Netherlands), the United Kingdom, Ireland, China, India, South Africa, Iran, and Brazil will be welcome again in the United States.
• Full Vaccination
To travel to the US, you must be fully vaccinated. FDA-approved vaccines like Pfizer, Moderna, or the Janssen vaccine are allowed. You can also travel to the US with a vaccine approved by the WHO, like AstraZeneca. The vaccines being used in the Netherlands meet the requirements.
• Negative COVID-19 test no older than 3 days
In addition to full vaccination, travelers must also show a negative corona test. This will be checked before departure to the US. This may be either an Antigen Rapid Test or a NAAT Test. Approved NAAT tests include a 新型コロナウイルスPCR検査 and a LAMP test. The negative test result must not be older than 3 days upon departure.
There is no quarantine for travelers after they arrive in the United States. According to the CDC's website, these terms and conditions apply to anyone over the age of 2 years. It is still unclear what the age limit is for vaccination. This will be announced before November 8.
Please note that the usual conditions apply for travel to the US. For travel to the United States, you are required to apply for an ESTA at least 72 hours before departure.
Travel back to the Netherlands
America is classified as "orange" by the Dutch State Department. Travelers are therefore required to have a negative PCR test that is no older than 48 hours. You may also use an Antigen Rapid Test if it is not older than 24 hours. The test requirement also applies to people who are vaccinated. People who are vaccinated are not required to quarantine upon return to the Netherlands. However, they must complete a quarantine statement.
